How-To Instructions for iSecure demo
(use with caution! Only use in a controlled environment - do NOT use against other targets!)
- Enable Boot from CD-ROM in BIOS on (Intel/AMD-based) machine that you are using
- Reboot machine with CD in drive to load compact Linux OS with tools
(due to extensive hardware probing to support a wide base of systems, the boot process is somewhat slow - we are working to improve boot speed with the next release)
- Click <Enter>.
- At "Welcome to Fire" click <OK>
Note: if you are using a USB-Mouse, the X-Windows graphical environment will likely not come up, and fall back to the menu-driven interface. Additional hardware support will be included in the next release.
- Scroll to "S" <Enter>
- Configure IP either by DHCP or Static, both menu options are available, need to have Ethernet cable plugged in at this point (Wi-Fi is not supported yet, but will be included in the next release).
- Scroll to "PenTesting" (short for: Penetration Testing)
- You're now in NMAP scanner. Here you'll see the default IP address to target is 64.5.39.36 ; this was the Melior iSecure demo server as shown in the demo video.
(the test server used the display from two intrusion detection systems, one before and one after iSecure, to show the incoming traffic as well as the traffic which iSecure does not let through - be advised, though, that IDS systems will only recognize attacks they have a signature for. For example, it will show a Synk1 attack, but not a Synk4 attack) You can launch a penetration test against the production site at 64.5.62.130
- Click <OK> to launch scan (and watch the response from the cloaked system:
no system identification and all ports scanned reported as open)
- Scroll to bottom of list (potentially a long list if you scanned all 65k ports): you can arrow key <Left> or <Right> to view all of report or to select particular port to attack.
- Now you're in the Attack Tool Menu. Choose from any of the 53 tools embedded in this menu (there are many more provided on the disk)
(please coordinate any attacks with Melior first; we do not want to accidentially bring down the local data center, until they are also equipped with iSecure! For demonstrations via the Internet, we recommend highly the low-bandwidth, application-level attacks, which demonstrate iSecures functionality, and do not cause any harm at any of the other systems on the Internet)
- To explore the additional content on the Melior F.I.R.E. CD, go to a Linux login screen by holding down the <ALT> key and pressing any of the function keys (such as <F1>). Authentication info:
Login: root Password: firefire
